I sent this to the Letters to the editor of the Salt Lake City Tribune to clear up the reason I have a problem with Romney. Probably the most Qualified of the Presidential candidates, this is the problem:
Sir:
I keep hearing Mormons in Utah and elsewhere on the news spouting the party line, "If you knew us you would know what Mormons (and Romney) are all about."
In full disclosure, I am moderate Republican, I am on the fence with Giuliani and Romney, both qualified. I have a rule never ever to vote for anyone in Congress or the Senate who do nothing.
The concern that Romney is rejected because he is a Mormon, we'll. this is the reason. As much as the LDS Church wants to paint it a Christian Church, most really, really know, Mormons are NOT Christians. As I told the Romney staff I met with (in considering a large donation), Romney and Mormons are Free to worship anyway they want. But call it what it is. Putting Jesus Christ in the title doesn't make it followers of Jesus, as much as you say it. Again, do what you want. but as Dr Phil says, "you better own it". I mentioned to Romney's staff that it isn't the Mormon thing that disturbs me, it is that I have to double check all Mormon's thinking and decision process more than most because at its core, it is flawed.
I don't even have to get into a Theological discussion, since the Mormon faith has made it easy for me. If some one started a debate that Bush and Israel concocted 911, the debate would be over. Same with the Bible and Mormons. The discussion ends, as I mentioned to Romney's Staff, when I read them the last thing shown in the Bible. Forget the discussion about False Churches, warnings,etc. All I have to read is what was dictated in the last sentence. It basically says, that no matter what you hear in the end days....or any day, DO NOT ADD OR SUBTRACT TO THIS WORD of GOD. If you do you will be cursed and face the pain later. This is EXACTLY what Mormons have done. Added and Subtracted. That is Spiritual suicide. Hey, you don't have to say anymore. So adding "another Testament" as the Mormons have written (by no one inspired by any Holy Spirit I know) , then I have to Question EVERYTHING that Romney does if in the White House. What else will he not question.? And what else will he fall for. I don't care if he flip flops on issues and I like him personally
As a community and group of people, the Mormons are some of the finest in the World. I have many Mormon friends, many Islamic friends and many New Age Friends.... all of which would not get my vote for President. I wouldn't even vote for me. At the same time, the Presidential candidates have True Christians who have done nothing about the immigration in their own states, did nothing for the poor and least among us in their States, and some are ungodly, and in some cases Un-American and some are corrupt and complete frauds. And I cant get my political advise from the people of Salt Lake City who once had a Mayor in the Hate Bush, Hate USA mold.
So I hope this clears up the reason why most America believes Mormon is not a good character flaw for Commander in Chief. It is clear and you cant eliminate the Last words of Warning no matter how many times you rewrite the Bible and its version of Truth. Other than that, he is qualified.
